My journey through the lens

I have both a bachelor's degree and MFA in film/video production from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by a long career in academia teaching media studies, international communication, and video production. My research and publication focus has been Morocco, although my previous productions included a documentary on Austin's history of blues music. Now, after a hiatus and shedding of all my past,  my path back to video production is profoundly personal. After surviving suicide at age 68, I found a powerful way to reinvigorate my life: using the lens to make a difference for wheelchair users and other marginalized folk. My goal is to raise awareness, give people voices, and tackle issues that matter. After 50 years of experiences in using public media, now I am engaged with Open Signal Community Media in Portland, and MetroEast Community media in Gresham, OR. This journey is allowing me to explore the incredible power of storytelling and its ability to connect, inspire, and create change.

My current focus is on wheelchair access, exploring its many permutations and the significant lack thereof. Through my videos, I hope to make viewers more aware and engaged with the challenges wheelchair users face. Beyond this focus, I deeply value collaboration and enjoy participating in others' productions of all stripes, colors, and shapes! Let's connect and create something impactful together.
